About Katie Dwyer

I'm an independent singer-songwriter, music producer, and arts advocate.

Since childhood, doodling, journaling, and songwriting have been my go-to forms of creative expression, but it wasn't until the end of high school that I was comfortable enough to perform my own songs on stage. Nearly a decade later, I began studying recording and music production techniques, finally giving myself the ability to release professional quality pieces of music from my home studio in central South Dakota, without the help of agents or record labels, and find work remotely as a recording artist and audio engineer.

In addition to writing and producing my own music, I am half of the band Moon & Sea, Head Coach and Community Manager for Produce Like a Boss, board member and past president of Short Grass Arts Council, a custom songwriter for Songfinch, a freelance audiobook narrator for audible and the South Dakota Historical Society Press, and owner of Heartbeat Kick Productions. From a young age I concluded that music was a hobby, not a job. It took me a long time to unlearn that, and I'm now doing what it feels like I'm meant to do. A big goal of mine is to be an example for other people who may be in that same mentality. I want to be a living example that it's possible to make a living as an artist, doing what you love.

I am now featured on South Dakota's Touring Artist Roster. If your non-profit or gov organization would like to hire me to perform a concert, teach a songwriting workshop, or speak about what it's like to be an independent musician in today's music industry, please You can use the contact page on my website or email [email protected] so I can check my availability and send you a quote.

When I summarize everything into paragraphs like this, it sounds intense. So my final disclaimer is that I'm really just a millennial mom who likes to garden and help others, and I use music to process this world and this life that I'm living and all the emotions that come with it. I hope that in sharing my songs, other people will relate, feel less alone, and maybe even access a feeling of hope or joy or unity that they didn't seem to have before.
